BROWN CUP TROPHY

The Brown Cup boat race is an annual contest between two rowing crews from the University of British Columbia and University of Victoria in Canada. Conceived as a friendly rivalry between coaches Howard Campbell of UVic and Joe Dowd of UBC, the first race was raced on the Gorge Waterways in 1991. Women's crews were included in 1992 when the race was raced in Coal Harbour and from then forward the Brown Cup Boat Races have became one of the most prestigious sporting events in the Pacific Northwest. March 2017 marked the 26th race for the men and 25th year the men's and women's boat races were run in a combined fashion. The format of the race is a dual style head-to-head race where two crews start side by each and race the best line over the set distance on either the Gorge Waterway or the Fraser River. Watched live around the world the Brown Cup Races have become a fixture in the Canadian rowing calendar.
